Giveaway rules

You never have to buy anything to enter or to win. Buying a ticket does not improve your chances, and we will never ask you to. If you see a giveaway of ours that asks for payment to enter, it is not ours.

You must be 18 or older and live in the United States or Canada. One entry per person per giveaway — a second email address is still the same person, and we remove duplicate entries when we find them.

Staff of The Desi Events, and the organiser of the event in question, cannot enter their own giveaway.

Each giveaway lists its own steps on the event page. They normally ask you to post the event to your Instagram story, tag us, share it with a few friends, and then fill in the short form with your name, email and the Instagram handle you posted from.

We check entries by hand. We cannot read your stories automatically, so a person compares your handle against the post. If we cannot find it, we may email you to ask before we rule the entry out. Entries we cannot verify are not included in the draw.

After entries close, we draw at random from the verified entries using a cryptographic random number generator. Your odds depend on how many verified entries there are, and the entry count is shown on the giveaway before you enter.

We draw once. The winner is contacted by email at the address they entered with, and has 5 days to reply before we draw again.

The prize is the ticket or tickets named on the giveaway, to that event only. It has no cash value, cannot be exchanged for another event, and cannot be resold. Travel, parking, food and anything else is yours to arrange.

If the event is cancelled or postponed, the prize follows the event: a postponed event keeps the prize valid for the new date, and a cancelled one ends the prize, exactly as a bought ticket would.

We use your email to tell you whether you won and for nothing else. We do not add you to our mailing list unless you tick the box asking us to, which is optional and never required to enter. Entry details are deleted within 90 days of the draw, except the winner's, which we keep as a record of the prize.

We may end or change a giveaway if something goes wrong with it — a technical fault, or entries we believe are fraudulent. If we do, we say so on the event page rather than quietly.
