How do I plan an Indian wedding in Dallas?

Planning an Indian wedding in Dallas–Fort Worth

An Indian wedding is not one event, it is several across a few days — and that single fact changes almost every planning decision that follows.

It is several events, not one

Depending on family and community, a wedding can include a pre-wedding party, a mehndi, a sangeet, the ceremony itself and a reception — spread over two to four days, sometimes in different venues, with different guest lists and very different atmospheres.

Budget and logistics follow from that. A quote for "a wedding" is not meaningful until the number of functions and the guest count per function is settled, which is usually the first thing a planner will ask you.

How far ahead to book

Venues in the Dallas–Fort Worth area that can hold a large function, and that allow outside catering, are a limited set and they book out well in advance — particularly for weekend dates in the popular months.

If your date is fixed, the venue is the first thing to secure and everything else arranges itself around it. If your date is flexible, saying so early gives you real negotiating room.

What actually drives the cost

In rough order of impact: guest count, the number of functions, the venue, catering, and then everything else. Decor and production matter enormously to how the night feels and much less to the total than most people expect.

Guest count is the multiplier on nearly every other line, which is why planners press on it early. It is not an attempt to shrink your wedding; it is the number that makes a quote real.

Questions worth asking a DFW venue

  • Can we bring our own caterer, or is there an approved list?
  • Is there a kitchen on site, and what can it actually handle?
  • What time must music stop, and what are the noise limits?
  • Is there a separate room for the ceremony and the reception?
  • What is included in the hire, and what is billed separately?
  • Is parking included, and how many spaces?
  • Can we have an open flame for the ceremony?

The last question is the useful one

Ask every venue and every supplier what has gone wrong at a wedding there before, and what they changed afterwards. A straight answer tells you more about how a night will be run than any brochure.
